Shopping in San Fran - Part 2

I just got back from a business trip to San Francisco that culminated in a shopping spree of epic proportions. I wrote about the beginning in Shopping in San Fran - Part 1 . Now the story continues.... As Esther and I headed out we both had that adrenaline rush that can only come from knowing you're going to find something amazing. That rush when you're determined to find something amazing. We burst into  Ross and headed straight for the shoes. Within in a matter of minutes Esther's arms were full of heels and we had to hunt down a basket. Every aisle we went into held a new and more wonderful heeled surprise. Vince Camuto , Jessica Simpson , Chinese Laundry , Sam Edelman , Dollhouse , Carlos , Dolce Vita , and the list goes on. When we were done looking in her size we looked in mine, and back to hers, and back to mine, and then into handbags and dresses. A basket full of heels "How many pairs of shoes do you think we have in here?" Esther asked as th...

Daring to Go Nude

Nude heels are perhaps the most popular, and perplexing shoe to gain popularity recently. Suddenly known as the “must have" color, the question everyone asks the second they get them home and look at them next to their closet is, “What the hell do I wear these with?” I do that with pretty much every shoe I buy, so I know the feeling, which is probably why I get more emails about shoe pairings than anything else (except sales).  These  Jessica Simpson nude heels are the perfect shade.  Part of the trick to nude heels is to make sure you get them in patent, or another leather that doesn’t look like skin.  Otherwise the second you put them on you’ll look like a Barbie doll with no shoes on. (I love bringing Barbie into the mix). Also to be avoided is a color exactly like your skin tone, and nude heels with an undercurrent of orange. If you want orange shoes, buy orange shoes. There is no such thing as “neutral orange” (yes, someone tried to tell m...

A Farewell to Shoes

Sometimes shoes wear out. It's a sad fact, but after years and years of being loved and worn on a regular basis they just start to wear down, and sometimes they get to the point where even a cobbler can't fix the problem. This weekend some of my favorites, which had been dying, long, painful deaths, were put to their final sleep (which is really the garbage cans behind my building). The pile of dead heels, and one flip flop Thor ate. A pair of my favorite heels was among the deceased was my red Nine West heels with the black and white piping around the edges. I bought these heels about a year after I got my first real job, and I spent all my grocery money on them and ate nothing but cereal for a week.  I also wore them constantly and with just about everything. Eventually the sling back was falling down, the leather was peeling, the heels were ripped up, and they were just sad looking. The gold heels were Jessica Simpson  , and were some of the first that came out...

Celebrity Shoes

I decided I should have my own shoe line. I mean why not? I like shoes, probably know more about them than a lot of women, have some great design ideas...all good things if you're going to start a shoe line. Who'd have thought this guy would make women's shoes? Oh, then there's also the fact the apparently now anyone can design shoes. Halle Berry has joined the long (and ever growing) list of celebs who has a shoe line. She will be "designing" 40 pairs of limited edition shoes for Deichmann , which will launch next month in the UK. Many others preceded her, some with their own brand, including Carlos Santana (love the shoes but does that even make sense?), Fergie (she actually wears her own line), Madonna (will never wear her own line), Jessica Simpson (better at fashion than singing), Cindy Crawford (also designed for Deichmann ), Kanye West (I wish I was kidding), Gwen Stefani (we all love L.A.M.B. ) and a bunch of celebs who designed shoes fo...

Shoe Blasphemy

I am about to commit shoe-lover blasphemy. I have an opinion that goes against everything you've been told by bloggers all over. I don't care for ShoeMint . I'll give you a moment to clutch your pearls and call me some horrible names before proceeding with my argument. Wedge booties I've been wearing for months. First, let me say that I don't own any ShoeMint shoes, and I know nothing of their construction. They're probably great. I generally like Steve Madden  and I have plenty of his heels. In all honesty I had great hopes for ShoeMint . Steve Madden is great. Shoe clubs are cute, and I kind of love the idea of a celebrity collaboration. I let all my readers know, bought into the hype, and waited with bated breath for the big launch. At which point I then made a face and went, "That's it?" Almost everything was freakishly close to stuff I already own. A pair of teetering Mary Jane stilettos, lace up wedge booties I didn't li...
