Heel Height is Just a Number

One of the most commonly asked questions I get is what height are the heels I most commonly wear. I wish that was an easy question to answer. I have heels of all different heights. Everything from kitten heels to 6" stilettos with the mother of all platforms. A smattering of some standards. Now granted, I don't wear the kitten heels, which is kind of a shame because they're a great pair of Kenneth Cole , zebra phony hair sandals. But with a heel that short and my 5'4" frame I look like a hobbit playing dress up. I should probably get rid of them, but they're pony hair. And zebra. You can't just get rid of zebra. Or Kenneth Cole . Most of my heels are somewhere between 3" and 5" and they serve all kinds of purposes. Some of them are for running errands, some for work, some exclusively for going out (because my Iron Fist Zombie Stompers aren't really work appropriate) and others are used for everything. Some of them have a platform...

Changing seasons and forgotten sandals

Chicago has finally started to decide to act like spring, and assuming it ever stops raining at random intervals, it's going to be sandal season soon. Changing seasons means that I break open the blue bin of forgotten shoes and rediscover all the shoes that I didn't take out last year, the shoes I forgot I owned, don't like and don't know why I own, and everything in between. Some of the forgotten shoes Last night I got a sudden burst of energy and curiosity, coupled with the annoyance of not being able to get through my closet, and I busted open the blue bin to put away the boots and break out the sandals. And I'm pretty sure that I didn't go through this thing in like two years, because there were shoes in there I totally forgot I owned. Zebra kitten heel sandals by Kenneth Cole , silk dragon print heels from Aldo , Prada mules, another pair of Kenneth Cole sandals, red sandals, black Nine West sandals, my beloved Bakers wedges that go with everyt...

Loafing around

Every few years the classic loafer (this season it's called a spectator) makes it's way back into the stores and hearts of the world. There's something about that round shape, too much stitching, tassels and/or fringe that doesn't move, that people gravitate towards at least once a decade.  My heeled loafers and spectators A few years ago a friend of mine managed to find me a pair of blue patent leather loafers that had fringe, tassels, a bow, and a wood stacked 4 inch heel. He bought them without even asking. He knew I'd love them. Around the same time I bought a pair of loafers/spectators (with a heel) from Steve Madden . I saw them and loved them. The color combination paired with the narrow toe and wooden heel made the shoe look a little 1930s and a lot corporate chic. This season spectators and their monotone brother, loafers, seem to be everywhere. Unfortunately, they're all flat. Kenneth Cole and Cole Haan boast beautiful spectators in v...

New old stuff

This weekend I went shopping in my own closet. Convinced that I had sandals that were a little more 1st birthday party friendly than something with a platform, I started digging through the blue bin. The blue bin is my answer to keeping shoe boxes. It's basically a giant shoe box that I rotate shoes through on a seasonal basis. Or at least that's the theory. In actuality it ends up being stuff I don't wear a lot, shoes I forgot about, and boots that are big and have laces that get tangled in everything and don't fit anywhere. Strappy black sandals; I forgot about you. Chinese print sandals: I love you, but do remember you scrape my foot and only go with a few outfits. Zebra print Kenneth Cole ! I totally forgot about your existence. Let's be friends again. Black satin sandals with rhinestones and a ribbon tie; you don't go with anything.  Doc Martens that have been in hiding since the '90s, buckle patent leather boots that I bought after getting int...
