Pink Shoes for Boobs

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which accounts for all the pink. I think I need these Charles David heels. Ribbons at the airports, pink tops of buildings, and pink pins on clothes all bring awareness to and assist in raising money for horrible cancer that we have yet to find a cure for, and has a ton of brave survivors. People and companies all find different ways to wear pink, raise money and raise awareness. One of the best ideas I have heard all month though is to wear pink shoes. Sure, it's not as philanthropic as running a marathon, doing a walk or listening to a survivor's story, but if you're short on time and want to help, it's just one more way to show support. Plus, seeing as how I have a random abundance of pink heels, this works well for me. But if you're like most people and don't have an entire section of closet that looks like it may belong to Barbie, there are plenty of heels out there. The best part is that not o...

Man Up and Buy Some Shoes

Outside basic brown. When it comes to fashion men usually get the short end of the stick.  Never more so then when it comes to shoes. Sure, they had some good fashion sporadically between the 1800s and now, but when it comes to shoes it was always a little dull (unless you were Louis XIV). Brown and black. Boots or shoes. Loafer or oxford. Those choices suck. For some reason American men seem especially wedded to the idea and concept of totally uninspired shoes. And once the gym shoe was accepted as OK for everyday wear (regardless of wether or not you actually go to the gym), it was over, and suddenly it's pulling teeth to find men who have shoes that are made by someone other than Nike . This is really a shame because I think you can tell a lot about a person by their shoes, and gym shoes say nothing interesting. When I was single I refused to date guys who wore gym shoes to bars.  If you're someplace other than the gym and wearing a pair of New Balance , I'm ...

Charitable acts of ugly

A few weeks ago I asked a co-worker if she wanted to take part in a charity 5K run/walk our office was participating in. The exchange went back and forth via email as we pressured one another to participate, and finally I got this:    You will have to wear gym shoes though.  Can you handle it? Thanks for the vote of confidence.  I am happy to report that I not only did the whole thing in more than 80 degree heat with humidity that can only come from a swampland, but I'm not sore today, and my feet didn't shrivel up and fall off for wearing a pair of New Balance cross trainers.  Today I am back in heels, and no, there will not be photos of athletic shoes. They're all ugly. I look at the whole event, from wearing athletic shoes to walking/jogging 3.6 miles in almost 90 degree weather all part of my charitable contribution.
