Pantone 2014 Color of the Year

2013 was emerald and Pantone has declared 2014 the year of " Radiant Orchid ." Steven does purple velvet with a bow. Good thing it's a nice, lush color and not the color of Barney the dinosaur.  Personally when it comes to purples I'm more of a deeper purple, eggplant kind of girl, but especially with spring coming up (rumor has it all this snow will eventually go away) it's the perfect color for spring.  Best of all it's a great color for shoes. Adding a purple (or radiant orchid) shoe to almost any ensemble is the perfect way to bring in that pop of color. It's also a popular color in all those florals that show up each print, so adding a floral shoe will automatically put you right into the Pantone pallet and make sure you're rocking the color of the year.  Get a little edgy with Iron Fist . Of course it remains to be seen how this shade is actually pulled into fashion this year by designers, but I hope that we see quite a bi...

Ankle High

There's something so sexy about a shoe with an ankle strap. I'm not talking about gladiator sandals or lace up espadrilles, but the classic style pump.  They remind me of old Betty Page photos and are vaguely BDSM. Steve Madden Faymuss and Whitneyy They're also everywhere now.  Now on every kind of shoe from wedges to stilletos, ankle straps are the shoe this spring and will certainly continue into fall.  Some of my favorites in my own collection are courtesy of Charles David . The fig colored heels are suede with a leather snakeskin heel and ankle strap. They're perfect with a pair of ankle length cigarette pants or a pencil skirt.  There's also the far less logical pair by Wild Pair that I bought at Bakers last year on some kind of stress induced shopping spree. Dubbed my "dinosaur heels" because of the spikes down the back of the heels, the red and black suede sandals may not be work appropriate with their six inch heels and giant...

Feeling Green

As I'm sure everyone knows by now, Pantone has declared Emerald the color for 2013. The exact color is Pantone 17-5641, for those of you geeky enough to want the exact Pantone code. I'm sure if you need RGB and PMS codes those are available as well, but when it comes to fashion, the only thing you need to know is that this year it's all about emerald. Green velvet from Mod Cloth.  The nice thing about emerald is that it looks good on almost everyone. It's a bright, vibrant green that can bring out the most positive features. It's also an amazingly easy color to incorporate into your existing wardrobe. Green accessories can be paired with a variety of colors, and can provide that perfect pop of color. Green shoes can also count as an accessory, and can be the perfect pairing with the florals that will be popping up this spring, or provide a splash of color to the basic black and white that's so popular right now. If shoes are your thing (and since y...
