Flowers are Popping Up for Spring

Spring brings another round of trends, and with warmer weather on the horizon (keep your fingers crossed Chicago), we're actually going to put away the dark colors, start to show a little skin, and bring some happy, brightness into daily outfits. These Brian Atwood heels bring floral to a new level If you're anything like me though, you really don't own a lot of color, and if you do it's dark. I have dark hair and pale skin with pink undertones, so neon makes me look extra pale, pastels are touch and go, and yellow makes me look like I have jaundice. Really the only "happy color" I can wear is blue because it matches my eyes. Luckily, shoes come to the rescue, and you can add a touch of spring and summer, as well as a dash of color with florals. Big last year, they'er even bigger this year. Sometimes literally as 3-D flowers have been popping up on the front, back sides, and sometimes even the heels of shoes. If you're not quite ready ...

Shopping Euphoria and Therapy Shoes

There’s a reason they call it “retail therapy.” Seriously. I don’t think I’ve ever really appreciated the term as much as I did on Saturday when Bakers on State Street and their Grand Re-Opening calmed my nerves, one pair of heels at a time. Life has been insanely busy lately. Not bad, just that kind of non-stop, soul draining clipping pace that leaves you without a moment to yourself and even your dreams are filled with projects at work, things you didn’t get to do at home, and sudden panics that you somehow missed giant event like a birthday or baptism. So after waking up at dawn on Saturday, and running around to various places, I took a detour between errands to drive downtown, spend $5at a meter (damn downtown parking), and hoofed it over to Bakers Shoes , praying that it was worth my time to go over there. Maybe it was the humidity, the walk, the throngs of children and tourists, or the stress,...

Spring Flowers

I don’t do pastels and I don’t do floral prints. These two things are going to make Spring fashions kind of difficult for me this year. Too sweet for me.  It’s not because they don’t look good on me. With pale skin and dark hair, pastels actually aren’t bad on me. Floral prints probably also look fine, but I can’t get over the fact that even the most clothing-looking floral pattern reminds me of wallpaper. Gives a whole new mental image to the term “wallflower.” Instead I’ll go with the bright colors for spring, of course paired with my black basics, button downs and pencil skirts (because in my wardrobe it is the early 1960s), and continue to toss on shoes that act as the statement piece that makes my look defy any era. Today I spent lunch looking through catalogs and browsing online, and I noticed that there are a lot of floral print shoes for Spring as well. Flower, snake and leopard? I could do this.  I guess they kind of look like wallpaper too, but so...
