Land of Booze and Cobblestone

I love to travel. And I get to do some for work, but it generally involves seeing an airport and a hotel, and sightseeing on my lunch hour. This is where these stayed.  In other words, it kinda sucks. Last week I finally got to take a real vacation and I went to New Orleans with my husband and a couple of friends. Land of voodoo, Cajun food, street performers, Bourbon Street, debauchery and cobblestone sidewalks. Those last two don't go well together. I've been there twice before, so I really should have remembered that you can't walk anywhere on a flat surface, but apparently I was too drunk to remember anything. I can't even use the excuse that it was a long time ago, because I was there last year. Lucky for me I packed a few pair of wedges of varying heights, and the one pair of stilettos I brought for the nice night out ended up staying in the suitcase. Between the cobblestone, stumbling drunks, bizarrely curved streets, and the fact that every piece o...

Easter Shoes and Egg Hunts

Easter always meant new shoes for me when I was a kid. I can't even remember getting shoes at any time other than Easter (although I'm sure I did). Every year I would get a pair of new, white patent leather shoes and would somehow instantly wander into the grass and stain them up. Bad for chasing children, but I want them. I remember one year I even tried to polish them myself with some white shoe polish I found under the sink. Needless to say that didn't work out well. Now as an adult I no longer get new shoes for Easter, or any other holiday. Sure, I may treat myself to a new pair of Christmas shoes, but not specifically for the holiday. But I think maybe I should start. Both my sisters showed up at Easter dinner in some awesome shoes and dresses. I was wearing a pair of white jeans, black top and my black Blowfish sandals. Immediately I wished that I had treated myself to new shoes for Easter like I was five again. Although maybe not white patent leather this...

Cork it up

I should have bought these This season I became a little obsessed with cork shoes after seeing Sam Edelman and Stuart Weitzman both made heels that were all cork.  Not ready to take the plunge for an all cork shoe, and needing a pair of sandals, I decided instead to go for a more “practical” and budget friendly pair of sandals from Wild Pair by Bakers Shoes . Black patent criss-cross straps with a cork split wedge heel.  I should have just spent the $200 at Nordstrom and bought the Sam Edelman peep toes with the towering platform because these shoes suck.  Since they were on final sale I couldn’t return them when I discovered that they were too small in that really special way that doesn’t involve the shoe bed, but instead is correlated to the space between the straps and the bed. You know. The shoes that make you feel like you have fat feet.  So I jam my fat little foot into the sandal and think, “Fuck it. They were on sale and they’ll stretch,”...
