How My Shoes Made it to Fashion Week Before Me

"Your boots had a pretty incredible time at NYFW!"  Fashion Week is kind of a dream among bloggers.  There’s a bunch who go and sit in the shows and give their opinion on the clothes, and ones who stalk around New York hoping to get a pic snapped so they can be on some street style blog. Yay for all of them. I have a full time career and twins. I have a daily routine that involves not getting spit-up on my work clothes. Apparently Fashion Week and I are not going to meet any time soon. On the other hand, my shoes have now made it to Fashion Week. Since going back to work and getting some semblance of a normal body back, I have been cleaning out my closet, much of which can be found on Tradsey (more going up all the time). My friend and hairstylist (and the reason for my Alterna addiction) texted me one day freaking out because she had the opportunity to go and do hair for a couple runway shows for Fashion Week. Of course she jumped at the chance and was desperately tryin...

Fashion's Night Out- Booze, Shoes and a Cupcake

I love fashion events. They combine two things I love, which is fashion (shoes included) and booze. Total win. Apparently handbags were selling well. Since I have a real job, and I'm not important enough to go to Fashion Week with my little blog (and because there's nothing dedicated to shoes), I was in Chicago for Fashion's Night Out, and again decided to meet up with my sister after work, and we went to the Shops at North Bridge , where they were celebrating in style, and because one of our friends was working an event there for Ulta . We spent most of our time in Nordstrom , where the sale initially derailed me, and I was lost among shoes and totally didn't see the booze and fashion show going on in Salon Shoes. Nordstrom was serving pineapple and jalapeno martinis (they were amazing), wine, champagne, appetizers, and all in the company of some amazing shoes. Cole Haan's new  Chelsea pump was being featured, and it was (of course) fabulous. We sa...

The pain of beautiful shoes

Today an article about model's feet hit the Internet and made people all over want to gag.  What happens when models are in runway shows day after day, tromping around in heels, acting as human coat hangers for the newest fashions? Their feet look damaged, and probably hurt like hell.  My initial reaction was that it was awful, but once I thought about it a little, I decided it's really not that bad. Especially once you take all the various factors into account.  For one, models don't always get to wear shoes that fit. Sometimes they jam their feet into shoes that are too small, and sometimes they have to strap on shoes that are too big. In both cases they then have to walk like there's no problem.  Lucky for them those runways are usually pretty short.  Photo courtesy of Fashionista.com So really, what are the big problems that heels cause when you spend Fashion Week walking runways? Runaway pinkie toes in strappy sandals, blisters, ...

Bird legs and cement shoes

I'm really glad I don't have bird legs. Or cankles. I'm not really sure how to spell that, but you know what I mean. When your calf and ankle meld together into one giant, soft, fleshy, undefined mess. Gag. In reality I don't have amazing legs. They're not bad, they're just legs and they work just fine. They're not really long (or short). My thighs have never been as tight as I want, or as small as I want, and thanks to some freakish German genetics, years and years of dancing (and being in heels constantly), my calves are larger and more defined than some other ladies. Thankfully though I have never had those under-defined, straight up and down, calf the same size as your thigh, bird legs that currently dominate runways. As I've been watching the new styles rolling out from fashion week I realized that none of the shoes look good on those women because they have no definition to their legs. This season shoes have gotten chunkier. They're gia...
