Balance it All

Every month I say I’m going to write, and then every month goes by with me writing less and less. I am still active on Facebook , Twitter and Instagram if you follow me there, which I hope you do because if this is how you get your Cat in Heels updates, then you’re woefully behind. So what’s been happening? The twins turned two, I still work a lot, I haven’t been shopping and have bought zero new shoes for me (the twins on the other hand…) and I continue to stress about every little thing because I’m a generally anxious individual and a mom, which makes you more anxious, so really if there was an Olympic sport for anxiety, I would totally be a contender. In all this working and moming and being a wife, there’s not a lot of time left for me. This weekend I sat with a friend as my twins and her two children tore her house apart and we discussed the woes of moming. There’s the working mom guilt that you never get to spend enough time with your kids, and then on the weekends you...

Mia Mariu Makeup Giveaway

Granada may be my next color. Mia Mariu Cosmetics , which I wrote about last week , has teamed up with Cat in Heels and is sponsoring a giveaway. If you love makeup, or would just like to try some of their amazing mineral and botanical products, now is your chance. Mia Mariu is giving away a Hydrating Stick Gloss , a loose mineral shadow , and a No. 18 Petite Detail Brush . The best part? You get to pick the colors you receive. No lousy colors that don't go well with your skin tone or a shadow that you would never wear. No weirdo, leftover from last season colors that no one wanted. Your choice. Shadow in Mora. That's pretty freaking amazing. To enter you have to "Like" Cat in Heels and Mia Mariu on Facebook. Want another entry? Follow us both on Twitter ( @catnheels and @Mia_Mariu ). A winner will be chosen on September 18. And sorry, but this is for U.S. residents only. So start looking at colors, and be sure to like us and follow us to win. Then y...

Like Me, Love Me

Tonight is not about shoes. Well, it is because everything I do is about shoes, but it's kind of not. It's about Facebook . And how they're now a money-making corporation. As everyone who has a page for their blog or business now knows, Facebook is trying to build profits and make money off pages. Now unless people specify they want to see your page in their feed, it only appears there if you "promote" the post. And by promote they mean pay. This is what you need to do Seeing as how Cat in Heels makes me little to no money, and Facebook can't be paid in shoes (which is what I spent all my money on), I'm asking you to make sure you have selected to have Cat in Heels appear in your news feed. To do this you simply hover over the "Like" button and have "Show in news feed" checked. If you don't then you'll miss out on my snark, wit, drivel, bullshit and tons of pictures of my shoes. You can also catch most of that...

Obtaining Obsessions

Sunday early afternoon I was sitting back with a cup of coffee after yoga and breakfast, and checking Facebook on my phone. It's the usual threads of what people had for breakfast, pictures of their kids and weekends, and shoes. Shoes fill my feed. Between every image of a smiling child and drunken smiles were pictures of shoes. From the affordable to the unaffordable they were all staring at me until something really caught my eye. Charles David shoes at 50% off. I have been obsession over these for months. I clicked the link and browsed through the teeny tiny pictures of Charles David fabulousness on my phone, then I moved onto page 2, and there they were, staring at me. Charles by Charles David black phony hair heels with tie tassels across the top of the foot, trimmed in black patent leather. Perfection. The ones I first saw at Fashion's Night Out, saw again in Miami on a business trip (but they were out of my size) and that I couldn't find on the Charles Da...

Sparkle Beyond the Holidays

It’s the holidays. To most people that means an additional 10 pounds and the excuse to dress like that crazy aunt from your childhood who always wore too much perfume and was never at a holiday party without head to toe sparkles and velvet on. Right now, I am telling you that is no longer going to fly (and I'm pretty sure I'm becoming that crazy aunt). These Louboutin's are not just for Christmas Now it's time to embrace the crazy, sparkly side of yourself. Right now, raise your right hand and swear to me that you are not going to buy some dress or shoes make of sequins and glitter just for Christmas and New Year’s, only to then abandon it in all it's glittery glory to collect dust somewhere in the recesses of your closet, right next to the collection of clothes that you can't return because you can't figure out where they came from. If you have the balls to wear glitter, sequins, and otherwise channel the Times Square ball at the holidays, you h...

Connecting the dots

Part of my problem with shoes (and shopping in general) is that I can't pass up a good sale. So last week when Bakers Shoes sent me and email offering an additional 15% off sale items, I had to see what I could find (like the red heels I need). Alas, there were no red heels, but there were a pair of cute black patent cork soled sandals, and an amazing pair of navy polka dot sandals. Never one to pass up a sale I immediately ordered both, which were luckily available in my size. Later that afternoon I realized there was something I didn't take into account. I don't own anything to match the navy polka dot shoes. Sad at the idea of having to wait to wear them, I posted this on Facebook , and immediately got some suggestions. Nautical chic was the answer from everyone, and suddenly I remembered that I actually own a white linen skirt that would go great with these shoes, especially when paired with a red cardigan and navy shell (which needs to be bought). These will ...

Doctor, Doctor!

Shoes wear out. I realize that, and am totally OK with it. Sometimes I can get them fixed. A new heel cap or sole does wonders to breathe life into a new pair of shoes. Then other times shoes are damaged in a way that makes you want to cry. (Like when my puppy chewed the strap off a Fluevog ). Or today when I saw a tear in a pair of Steve Madden shoes that are near and dear to me. From this angle it's hard to see the tear. These are affectionately known as my "Grandma" shoes, because she would have loved them. That means their either old lady shoes, or my grandma had awesome taste in footwear. Hint: It was totally the latter. So you can imagine my horror today when I saw a tear in the side of my white and black snakeskin shoes. A tear in the middle of the shoe, near the seam, that was a folded piece that created a little pocket. A little pocket of terror. A pocket with a tear that is threatening to become something larger and ultimately destroy my shoe. How do...

I want Kandee

Writing about shoes is an exercise in masochism for me.  I write and research different fads, trends, and designers, torturing myself with pictures of shoes and information about shoes that cost more than my first car (which was a piece of shit). The information gets emailed to me in droves. Daily emails of shoe sales and new designer lines, new trends, new things I must have to stay at the forefront of shoedom. Wonderful, beautiful things that I write about, link to and obsess over that I don't own (like Swarovski encrusted Louboutins ). Various Kandee shoes Then there are the ones that actually come within the budget, and then you want the whole line and the budget is shot to hell. Enter my new obsession: Kandee shoes. A small UK designer has put together all the best trends into any kind of shoe you can think of and sweetened them up with names like " Tang ," " Space Sherbet ," " Peanut Crunch " and " Blue Raspberry Slushy ."...

I'm back

Sorry for the hiatus. I was on vacation. My first real vacation in years, and an amazing one at that. Predictably I am now also eyeballs deep in work that has piled up while I was gone. If you miss me (and I know you all do), follow me on Facebook or Twitter , which I have been updating because they both take less time than a real blog post, which I promise to do soon. You know I can't go all the way to South America and back without having something shitty to say about people's footwear. In the meantime, I leave you with my newest obsession. Camouflage heels. I don't have any and am pretty sure I need some. Pretty sure it was inspired by my hike through the rain forest jungles of Honduras.

Shoe porn and barefeet

The other day I got a text from my brother-in-law. It said Vibram FiveFingers and then a link. Now, maybe there's something wrong with me, but my immediate thought was, "Why am I getting porn SPAM from the BIL?" Then I realized that texts aren't SPAM, and there's no way he'd send me porn (because that's weird) and it had to be something else. So I took a deep breath and clicked on the link. I'm pretty sure I would have rather seen porn. Instead there are pictures of people's feet adorned in those awful hobbit feet, rubber shoe things. Which I guess are kind of like porn because they're obscene looking, and kind of like a foot condom. I must have taken a while because then he sent a text, "Cat in fingers?" Ummm...no. I understand it's the closest thing to being barefoot, and that's good, and it's anatomically correct, and designer shoes are still more expensive and definitely not as comfy, but the fact remains th...

Love me and my epic fail

Happy National Pink Day! Now let's all pause in horror at what a failure I am for having completely not known about it. Instead I wore purple and black today, and left all my beautiful pink shoes home with the dog. I bet they're crying right now. Some say pink day is for breast cancer awareness, some just say it's for fun. Regardless, it should be celebrated because it's a great color. Betsey Johnson celebrated by making her whole store pink. Or that could have just been a random photo. She's generally pretty pink. In other news, this little Cat has been quite busy and now has a Twitter account, and a Facebook page. So be sure to follow me and like me, and follow the blog in two different places, and really just make your cyber life revolve around Cat in Heels. And send it to your friends so they can read my snarky comments about people's footwear and judge me and my sanity. Besides, Twitter has been being a total bitch to work with, and some woman i...
